Definitely the most direct path to my mom’s heart is chocolate, with a few “peeps” thrown in to really help her diabetes! Oh well, as she says, “If I can’t have my little treats now and then, I’m not interested in living forever!” Johnny & Lois are usually much stricter about her diet, but everybody needs a peep cheat every now and then, right?
One of Mom’s home health care workers gave her a beautiful hydrangea that Lois planted outside so she can see it as she sits in her favorite spot in the dining room looking out onto the bird and hummingbird feeders.
Then we took off for Easter brunch at a new restaurant in the area. We really enjoyed sitting outside with the sounds of the fountain and eating delicious omelettes and French toast.
We started at the state capitol where my brother informed me that SC is the last state in the Union to fly the Confederate flag on its capitol grounds.
In 1962, they flew it from the top of the Capitol dome, but in 2000, amidst great debate, they went with being more politically correct and moved it to a less prominent site. It now flies by the monument to SC confederates who died in the Civil War.
See “The Last Stand” for more interesting info on this subject.
Also in 2000, South Carolina was the last state to enact a holiday honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. Sometimes slowly but surely at least works…
So it wound up being a great day, although both mom and I kept thinking about all the kids at Angelique’s house hunting Easter eggs. I’m going through the videos and pictures she sent now and will be sharing soon!
