Even though I've always
been fascinated with oddities and any manner of weird stuff, I had
never heard of The Mothman. But when I mentioned to my friend Tab
that I was passing through Point Pleasant, WV on my way to see him
and Deanna, he helped get me intriqued enough about this guy to
convince me to stay and visit downtown Point Pleasant. I
also don't remember ever hearing of The
Mothman Prophecies movie that came out in 2002 despite the fact
that I absolutely love Richard Gere.

Sign on statue: "On a chilly,
fall night in November 1966, two young couples drove into
the TNT area north of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, when
they realized they were not alone. What they saw that night
has evolved into one of the great mysteries of all time; hence
the Mothman Legacy began. It has grown into a phenomenon known
all over the world by millions of curious people asking questions:
What really happened? What did these people see? Has it been
seen since? It still sparks the world's curiosity - the mystery
behind Point Pleasant West Virginia's MOTHMAN."

Side view of the
red eyed wonder who terrorized people here from 1966 to 1967
and whose appearances
are said to have foretold or been seen at disasters, including
the World Trade Center, Hurricane Katrina as well as the collapse
of the local Silver Bridge in 1967 (which pretty much put
an end to the local sightings).

Right around the
corner from the statue is the shop "The
Point Where the Rivers Meet" at 330 Main Street.
I had fun visiting
with shop owner John, who is happy to fill you in on anything
Mothman related, including the fact that The Mothman really
did receive 3 votes when his name was entered as a write-in
on the ballot.

This cutout is
in front of the store so I had to see what I would look like
as the "Bride of Mothman!"
