When I was leaving the
Columbia area in May for my 2011 summer in Michigan after visiting
my brother, I decided to take his advice and see Greenville
on the way. When I saw that Paris
Mountain State Park was so close (about 8 miles) and looked
like a pefect homebase for exploration, I was sold! Click

The
Park Center is the restored historic bathhouse, constructed by the
Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1936. It's really nice to sit
on the porch and enjoy the views of Lake Placid. I walked around
this lake on the Lake Placid Interpretive Trail, a mostly level
nature walk a little over one mile and definitely worth it!

There
is a seasonal swimming area where you can also rent canoes, kayaks
and pedal boats.

The
winding road offers serene views, but is pretty small, so take your
time and enjoy. From the time you enter the park until you get to
the campground (a little less than one mile), there is no place
on the road (and no place in front of the Park Center) to stop to
register for the campground. People with reservations are given
instructions, and basically you go to the campsite, set up and then
go back and pay.

Administrative
Assistant Gillian will get you checked in quickly so you can get
to the business of having fun. Ranger Shawn is around to answer
questions about the park and to help out as needed.

Don't
be in too much of a hurry to leave the office though. I enjoyed
taking the time to look over some of the history of the park that
the center has preserved.
