When
I was researching campgrounds near Charleston, I quickly saw that
the Campground
at James Island County Park was highly recommended ("an
absolute gem"). After reading comments from RV.net
and RVParkReviews.com
like: "the
gold standard for the Charleston area" and "the best as
far as we are concerned," I knew this
was where I wanted to stay. It's so great to have such a network
of helpful RVers!

Here
I am in site 123 - plenty big and convenient plus I could get satellite
TV and my Verizon air card worked fine. When I was here in 2007,
only 12 of their 124 sites had 50 amp service.

August
2008: Park Manager Michael Bradley was kind enough to let
me know of some campground upgrades completed recently. All
sites now offer 20/30/50 amp hookups! Besides that, they've
installed free WiFi that is accessible from all campsites,
cottages and the activity center. They've also improved the
campsite markers so they're better visible from the RV. He reports
their guests are very pleased with the upgrades and I can well
imagine that's true. It was a great park when I was there and
the improvements can only add to the enjoyment of the campground. |

#49
was chosen by an RV.Netter buddy, "fla-gypsy" because
it was recommended by another poster, "Zeppi-popout."
Seems there's an entertaining raccoon that comes and hangs out on
a tree limb sometimes. I was happy to meet fla-gypsy and his wife
before they headed home. We didn't have a lot of time to visit,
but it's always fun to put faces with the names of your online buddies.
This was their first visit and they had nothing but good things
to say about the park. They said they didn't come for the things
advertised for kids and pets since they travel with neither, but
they appreciated how well the campground is maintained and managed,
how convenient the shuttle into town is - how friendly the staff
is and how clean the showers and restrooms are.

The campground
also has a well stocked store, 2 laundry facilities, propane and
dump station. There is a $9.00 fee to dump if you're in a site
with no hookups or in overflow.
They also
provide a shuttle to downtown Charleston Visitor's Center, Folly
Beach County Park and Folly Beach Fishing Pier for a nominal fee.
($7 round trip per person as of August, 2008).
