James Island County Park is a 643 acre park and the only Charleston County park with a campground. Featuring a water park, a climbing wall, bike and boat rentals, scenic picnic areas and miles of hike & bike trails, there is never a lack of fun stuff to do. There's even an off-leash waterfront area for the doggies!

Be prepared for scenes like this to feast your eyes on. There are numerous hike & bike trails throughout the park, one of which starts at the bridge on the left.
Lots of flying and swimming creatures to enjoy. At the fishing pier, I met Kelsey who was here from Illinois visiting her brother and enjoying the crabbing. Some didn't meet the minimum size requirement, so were tossed back, but they got a few to munch on that night.
The Climbing Wall is a popular attraction for both kids and adults. When I was there, this guy was performing routine maintenance making sure all the bolts were tight and safe.
Malia's 2 cents: I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. After a dreary winter in one place, this was the perfect spot to break free and start enjoying nature again. There's so much to do just in the park (besides nearby Charleston), you'll never get bored staying here, that's for sure!

Among its many planned classes and activities, the park is also famous for its Holiday Festival of Lights held during the Christmas season (Nov. 9 - Jan 1). With over 2 million lights along a 3 mile driving tour, this is a very popular attraction, so be sure to make reservations for the RV park well in advance. The $10 fee is included when you're camping. If you happen to check in during that time, you will be charged the fee, but it will be applied to your camping fees.

Camping here will also get you admission and parking in the other Charleston County Parks:

Folly Beach County Park

Edwin S. Taylor Folly Beach Fishing Pier

Isle of Palms County Park

Kiawah Beachwalker Park

Mt. Pleasant Palmetto Islands County Park

N. Charleston Wannamaker County Park

Caw Caw Interpretive Center
