Area B-79 is where I landed lakefront property, my all-time favorite kind.
This was an extra large pull-through and I was able to park in such a way as to have great views and also found a hole in the trees to get Direcway satellite TV. Verizon cell phone and aircard worked great, also.
My side yard - a typical lake inlet view from this end of Area B. What a nice way to start and end the day with this greeting you!
At Site B-53, I met Leroy Dunn from nearby Columbia. He's been camping here for 30-40 years and loves the peace, quiet, good fishing and that it's only 40 minutes from home. The Park Manager, Ashley Berry, said this stretch of sites 49-57 get filled the fastest with return guests due to easier access to the larger open part of the lake. Ashley's tip: #49 is his personal favorite site with lots of space between sites and good level access to the water.

Current Rate info from Dreher Island website. A new discount program just implemented in 2006 starts on October 23 and ends the 1st week in March - 40% off regular camping rates on Sunday - Thursday! South Carolina residents and 100% disabled receive 35% off anytime, year round.

Crystal and Brit at the office were also always helpful, telling me about the different sites and what others like and don't like about them. I'd recommend calling the office (803-364-4152) for that kind of info instead of ReserveAmerica, whose agents haven't even seen the campground.

Campgrounds Overview:

Total of 97 RV sites and 15 tent sites in 2 loops with both lakefront and forest sites. Sites have water and 30 amp electric hookups and dump stations nearby. All sites are $18-20 night whether RV or tent, lakefront or forest, so naturally the lakefront ones fill up first. Rates vary depending on whether weekend (Fri-Sat) or weekday.

Lakefront sites all are pretty level, but some forested sites have significant enough slopes that it would be hard to level a large motorhome. In Area B, sites 59-70 shouldn't be a problem leveling.

Area A - 30 RV sites and 1 shower/restroom
Area B - 66 RV sites and 3 showers/restrooms

Area B is closed after Thanksgiving until the first weekend in March unless Area A fills up.

Differences between Areas: Area A is closest to the entrance and outside the gate, so for easiest in/out, this is the preferred loop. There is a gate that is locked at dark that you have to open with combination to get to Loop B, about 2.5 miles from the park entrance. Local shore fishermen prefer Area A, but Area B has better access to the big water area.

Seasonal info: (Maximum length of stays vary with season)
Peak Season (April - September) (14 day max)
Mid Season (March, then October - November) (28 day max)
Off Season (December - February) (42 day max)

Note: Rates and info were effective as of October, 2006. Check with park for any changes.
