While I was staying at
Skidaway Island State Park,
the weather was picture-perfect the whole week I was there. But
it wasn't until my last day that I took the time to go for a walk
on the Sandpiper Nature Trail. Boy, was I glad I didn't miss that!

The
trail is about a mile long loop that starts behind the museum on
a sunny boardwalk across a bridge spanning a marshy area. Stop at
the museum first and take a look at the giant sloth skeleton re-creation
and be glad they're not still wandering around here!

There are other bridges with great views of trees with such interesting
shapes and characters I just stopped and watched the moss blow in
the breeze and listened to some of the sweetest bird songs I've
ever heard.

Don't
miss taking the Avian Way Loop at the end of Sandpiper. I was lucky
enough to get shots of this gorgeous hawk and cardinal, but there
were many other feathered friends that flew away before I could
get a shot of them. This is a wonderful bird-peeping trail!

This
part of the trail leads to shady river views. A deer crossed my
path as I passed a beautiful flowering Cherokee Rose bush and that
just about made my day.

While
there, I got a scenic shot of this boat (I guess it's a dredger
of some sort). There was also a nesting osprey high above on a naked
tree, but the pics of him didn't come out, unfortunately.
