I
decided to treat myself extra special nice during my stay in Yuma.
It took me almost a month to recuperate from what was being called
the "desert crud" - a particularly nasty kind of flu-thing
that had me knocked out for almost a month when I first arrived
in December, 2005. Even after recovering, every muscle in my body
let me know it still wasn't happy and needed some serious TLC.
My
"Quick Fix" started with a Swedish massage and, indeed,
this was the best way way to start! Besides just general soreness
all over, I had a particular problem with my left shoulder. Erin
paid more attention to that area and also used a product called
"BioFreeze" - which I immediately bought because I had
more movement in my shoulder after her massage and treatment than
I'd had in weeks!
My
next date with Louise for my facial brought a whole 'nother level
of relaxation to the day. I'd never experienced a facial before and
had no idea how great that could feel. A soft, soothing facial massage
followed by a warm cleansing, then a mask concocted for my own particular
skin type, ending with a spritz of refreshing toner and I was ready
to move on to the next spot. I really didn't expect that I would be
able to tell a physical difference from one treatment, but when I
looked in the mirror, I was amazed at how much tighter and brighter
my face looked.
The
dry desert is hard on skin and my feet always seem to be the most
neglected when it comes to remembering to moisturize. And no way do
I ever go to the trouble to paint my own toenails! So it was really
nice to sit back in the massaging chair and soak my feet, get them
rubbed, moisturized and then all dolled up. The ultimate decadent
pleasure by a very sweet lady named Gloria!
I
met the owner, Dylan DeAnda, during my visit and the enthusiasm
for his business was obvious. He and his wife moved here from Washington,
DC with a long-held dream of operating a day spa. His caring and
hands-on approach to the business explains the nurturing feeling
you are enveloped with upon entering Lotus. He says you can teach
skills and techniques, but the great attitude is the core of their
"customer-centric" team. The
motto of Lotus Day Spa is "Rejuvenation Redefined." I
couldn't describe it better. Wrapped in a comfy soft robe, even
between treatments the pampering was poured on with fresh fruity
flavored water and snacks served. Every effort is made by all the
staff to make sure your day here is a memorable one. Mine sure was!
Malia's
2 cents: I spend a lot of time and money on my RV for preventive
maintenance to make sure it carries me where I want to go. I
decided my body deserved the same treatment and could do with
a bit of "maintenance" of its own. I've come to believe
that as we get older, this kind of attention to our bodies'
well being is more a necessity than a luxury. Whenever you're
in Yuma, I highly recommend you be good to yourself and go visit
Lotus Day Spa - and give them Malia's regards!

The
lotus closes at night and sinks underwater. In the morning it re-emerges
and blooms again. Thus the flower became a natural symbol of the sun
and creation, a symbol of re-birth. Appropriate for how you feel after
a day at the spa!
