After
months on the road pretty much nonstop, I was definitely ready for
rejuvenation and a new look - and what better place than Hot Springs
to transform myself?

Of
course there are many spas in Hot Springs, but I chose Andrea
Rose Day Spa because I always prefer to patronize
owner-run businesses.

I
was looking forward to everything but having my "before"
picture taken! |

The
first order of business is to get relaxed. Here's my masseur,
Stephen Lake. I was not only impressed with the quality of his
massage, but with his giving spirit. When I asked him what made
him get into this profession, he said it's one that provides
therapeutic benefits to both the client and himself - he's actually
had clients cry with relief when the tension they'd been carrying
around had been released by his expertise. He really enjoys
the help he can provide his clients. |

Moving
on to the facial, Gloria begins with 2 cleanses while warm steam
swirls around, exfoliation, extraction, then she uses a device
that creates a layer of ozone between the skin and the device
that kills bacteria on the skin surface. After a gentle face
and neck massage, the masque is applied and you just lie there
and relax to the sounds of soothing music. When that's removed,
toner and moisturizer is applied. Only reason I'm not grinning
ear to ear here is only due to the masque I was wearing, because
believe me, I was pretty blissed out by this time! |

My
face feels radiant and smooth - my body is totally relaxed and
knot-free, and my hair looks healthy again! I love the "new"
me! |

From
left to right: Heather Geeo, Operations Manager, will coordinate
your day of pampering, keeping you hydrated and fed with Gloria's
mom's delicious homemade cookies; Gloria Hansen, Owner, Aesthetician
and basically Jill-of-all-beauty-trades, can provide any number
of wonderful treatments; Chana Caylor can make you love your
hair again after she waves her magic scissors and brushes. |

Gloria
has created a wonderful atmosphere here, consisting of three "Ladies
of the Court" - charming 1800's Victorian row houses with an
interesting and colorful history. The one on the far left is The
Rose Cottage, a comfy 2-bedroom unhosted bed &
breakfast - ask about Elizabeth, one of their more "ethereal"
guests here. Can you guess one former use of these houses by their
names, "Miss Kitty" and "Miss Scarlet?"

Malia's
2 cents: I
knew my insticts had chosen the right spa as soon as I walked
in the door and was so warmly greeted by Heather. She later
told me she has worked in other spas, but had never experienced
the like-family and team-player atmosphere found here. She
said clients leave as friends, so the return customers and
their word of mouth testimonials are their best advertisement.
And this made-over Malia highly recommends that you make Andrea
Rose Day Spa a "must-do" in Hot Springs!
