What
a combination on the glorious Rogue River - peaceful at times, thrilling
at others, this ride offers it all!
|
|
|
|
Sometimes
you mozey along enjoying the peace and sometimes you move at a pretty
good clip through the beautiful Rogue River.
|
|
|
|
Views
along the way include natural ones like mountain goats, high osprey
nests, blue herons, and man-made beauties like these riverfront
homes.

At the
turnaround point, you're taken through the canyons that early settlers
had such a hard time in, they thought surely it was as bad as the
gates of Hell.

Just to
keep things interesting, they take us on "spins" every
now and then - great fun! Here's a boat just coming out of one.
Which rows do you think got the wettest?

Here's
the staff at the OK Corral waiting to greet us with a good hot meal
and assorted cold drinks. This fantastic structure with a great
view is open only to guests of Hellgate, and should not be missed.
Although they have other tour options, I highly recommend the dinner
cruise.

The roaring
fire was a welcome sight as well. Pitchers of beer, wine, lemonade
completed the cozy picture. The menu tonight consisted of ribs and
bbq chicken with lots of delicious accompaniments.

If you
think you may not be adventurous enough for this trip, meet Thirza
Stevens, who was celebrating her 93rd birthday. She told me she
had a blast and her caregiver, Sylvia Stephenson, seemed to agree.
There are tractors to carry people up the hill to the restaurant
from the river, so there's no reason to miss anything this fun group
offers.

Malia's
2 cents:
This
trip is billed as "soft adventure" - suitable for
infants to the elderly. Being inbetween these designations myself,
I had an absolute blast! I enjoyed the ride, the sights, the
meal and the great people I met. |
