You
enter this magical forest about 14 miles from the park entrance.
The drive getting there is quite beautiful with great views and
pulloffs along the way, but there was always something extra special
about getting to this part.

Entering
the Giant Forest, I always breathed a sigh of contentment just
being among all these ancient beautiful beings. |

Each
tree seemed larger than the next and the interesting twists
and turns of their trunks were endlessly fascinating. |

I
worried about the damage done to this giants with the road so
close to their rather delicate root systems. There are lots
of signs around explaining how they are much more conscious
of preserving their health now than they were in the 1950's
before they knew of the impact of such traffic was. |

The
Sentinel is the featured tree at the Giant Forest Museum, about
18 miles from the entrance. They have some interesting exhibits
and info on the trees here, so don't miss it. |
