Other
RVers I met along the way told me about the Humboldt
County Fairgrounds in Ferndale. That quaint little Victorian
town was on my list of must-sees when coming down the California
Coast, so I was glad to hear about alternatives to other really
expensive RV parks in this part of California.
Note: Humboldt
County Fair is held each year in August. During those
dates, the RV Park is closed.

This
is the entrance into the park. The row along the back are back-in
sites. There's a middle row of pull-throughs.

I
chose the front row which looked out onto a pastoral scene of farmland
filled with sheep and cattle and the occasional horse passing by.

I
was glad I could pull in frontways and still reach the utilities
so I could enjoy the better view afforded from this direction. I
also had no problem getting my TV and internet satellite service.

This
shot shows how long the sites are and how much room is between them.

Malia's
2 cents: When
considering the high prices of most California campgrounds,
this one's a real deal at $15.00 a night for water and 30 amp
electric hookups (in October, 2005). There's a dump on the grounds
as well. The sites are level, with some gravel and some grassy.
All in all, a good homebase for exploring Eureka and Ferndale.

| Note:
I also checked out Redwood
Acres, the Eureka Fairgrounds RV Park, and liked this Ferndale
one a whole lot better. Eureka had full hookups for $18 a night, but
it was basically a parking lot off of a driveway with the added ambiance
of a fire station right across the street. I'd rather boondock for
a night at the Eureka
K-Mart than stay there, I think. |
